An Ohio man is facing serious legal consequences for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Interestingly, he was not driving a traditional vehicle at the time law enforcement stopped him; rather, he was operating an Amish-style buggy. The man was arrested at the scene after police say they noticed he was driving the buggy in a reckless manner. He is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Intoxicated operation of a vehicle
It is against the law to operate any type of vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. A person can face drunk driving charges if driving a car, truck, motorcycle, commercial vehicle or even a buggy. In this case, the buggy driver was said to have been operating his vehicle on the wrong side of the road and driving recklessly.
Authorities say the driver did not respond to the initial attempts by law enforcement to pull him over. Police say the driver was slumped in the seat while the buggy, pulled by a horse, continued driving down the road. Ultimately, the buggy apparently came to a stop after it crashed into a police vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and given medical treatment for minor injuries.
A strong defense
If an Ohio driver is facing criminal charges for drunk driving, he or she would be wise to take immediate action to develop a strong defense strategy. In this case, the buggy driver may find it helpful to consult with a defense attorney to understand the options available to him. With knowledgeable guidance and support, it may be possible to confront the charges he is facing and seek mitigated penalties.
