Former “Jackass” star charged with DUI

Jan 11, 2018 | drunk driving

Ohio residents may remember Bam Margera from his time on the television show “Jackass”. On Jan. 7, Margera was charged with DUI after a traffic stop in California. Authorities say that he was pulled over after driving by an officer conducting another traffic stop. When he passed by, the officer noticed that he was talking on his cell phone and was asked to stop.

When authorities made contact with Margera, a strong scent of alcohol was detected. After field sobriety and Breathalyzer tests, he was taken into custody and booked into jail. He was later released on his own recognizance after originally being held on bail of $15,000.

Those who drive a vehicle while impaired may be taking a serious risk. It is possible to get into a single-vehicle accident that may seriously injure the driver or passengers inside. It is also possible to hurt or kill pedestrians or those in other vehicles that may be involved in a drunk driving accident. Drivers may also be pulled over by police and taken into custody, which could carry significant consequences such as spending time in jail and money on legal fees.

Individuals who are charged with DUI may wish to talk with an attorney as soon as possible. This may help defendants come up with defenses to their cases. For instance, it may be possible to assert that a driver was under the legal alcohol limit or that there was no reasonable suspicion that is required to conduct a traffic stop. An attorney may also cast doubt on the results of a Breathalyzer or field sobriety test.
