On Dec. 27, it was reported that an Ohio mother was facing multiple charges, including drunk driving charges, after her vehicle was pulled over in Loveland. The 27-year-old woman was pulled over on Dec. 23 after an anonymous caller reported that she was driving erratically.
The caller reportedly followed the vehicle until the authorities conducted a traffic stop. She allegedly admitted that she handed a 5-year-old child a sippy cup that had wine in it as the officer came to the vehicle window. When the officer conducted a breathalyzer test, it showed that she had a blood alcohol content of .169.
Ultimately, the woman was charged with driving under the influence, endangering children and failing to stay in the marked lanes. She was reportedly free on bond following her court appearance.
In Ohio, the consequences of drunk driving can be severe. If this is the person’s first offense, they may lose their license and have to undergo alcohol education. They could potentially also face serious fines. If they are facing aggravated drunk driving charges, endangered children or caused an accident that left others seriously injured or even dead, the consequences could even include a jail sentence.
Depending on the circumstances surrounding the case, a criminal law attorney may potentially assist with defending against the charges. Not only can they provide the legal options available to the accused person, but they may also look for flaws in the case. For example, if a breathalyzer test was conducted, the case could potentially be thrown out if the machine was not properly calibrated or if the police officer did not properly administer the test. Further, inconsistencies in the officer’s testimony and police report could also cause the case to be dismissed.
